The purification of one’s self is very difficult and yet salvation is based on the purification of self. God the Almighty says: Qad aflaha man zakkaaha; that is to say, he who purifies himself attains to success. But the purification cannot be attained to except with the grace of God. The inviolable law of God is: lan tajida li-sunnatillahi tabdeela; that is, you will not find the law of God (His practice) changing, The law that He has promulgated for the attraction of His Grace is that one should follow the Holy Prophet, sallallaho alaihi wa sallam. Of course there are thousands who say that they utter the words la ilaha illallaho and they also do good deeds; they shun evil deeds. In fact what they really mean to say is that that being the case they do not need to follow the Holy Prophet, sallallaho alaihi wa sallam. You should remember that that is a blunder they commit; it is an illusion produced by the Satan who makes some people think on these lines. God has Himself conditioned the purification of one’s self with obedience to the Holy Prophet. How, then, can a man say that he does not need to follow him, that he is doing good deeds and he shuns the evil and therefore he is pure and pious. The fact is that unless a man has perfect and complete faith and loves the Holy Prophet, he cannot have certainty and comprehension of God.
The faith that burns away the sins and the certainty that shows the Face of God can never be attained to without the fulfillment of grand prophecies displaying the all-powerfulness of God – the fulfillment of these prophecies is, at the face of them, far beyond the imagination of human beings. The way the people are engrossed in their worldly affairs and the way they struggle for the successful accomplishment of their affairs, could they do the same for the sake of God? I am sure God would be prepared to show them grand signs of Mercy. But it is a pity that the people are quite negligent in this respect; it is not difficult to offer five daily prayers. The water is there to make ablution and the earth is there to lay your head on it. What is really needed is an obedient and a pure heart which is sincerely and truly yearning for communion with God. If we put together the time that all the prayers take, it would not be more than a few minutes. After all, people go to the toilet. If they think even that much of the prayer, it would not be difficult for them to find time to pray. But what a pity. Islam is in danger and the people (its followers) are devoid of the light of faith. If somebody is afflicted with a dangerous disease, how worried he is. But the people do not heed this spiritual leprosy which pushes them into the Hell.
