When Ahmadi Muslims present the argument that Hazrat Isa^(as) has died based on numerous verses of the Holy Quran, some non-Ahmadi Muslims suggest that even if he has died, he will come back to life and live for a period of time on earth.

In his book, Izaala-e-Awhaam, the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad^(as), has listed 10 verses of the Holy Quran that prove that the dead do not come back. This list is available in Ruhani Khazain, vol. 3. p. 619-622.

We present this list below. Each verse is self-explanatory and establishes clearly that once a person has moved onto the next world, they never come back, and there is no exception for Hazrat Isa^(as).

Verse #1

وَحَرٰمٌ عَلٰی قَرۡیَۃٍ اَہۡلَکۡنٰہَاۤ اَنَّہُمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُوۡنَ ﴿۹۶﴾

Translation: And it is an inviolable law for a township which We have destroyed that they shall not return. [21:96]

Verse #2

حَتّٰۤی اِذَا جَآءَ اَحَدَہُمُ الۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارۡجِعُوۡنِ ﴿ۙ۱۰۰﴾  لَعَلِّیۡۤ اَعۡمَلُ صَالِحًا فِیۡمَا تَرَکۡتُ کَلَّا ؕ اِنَّہَا کَلِمَۃٌ ہُوَ قَآئِلُہَا ؕ وَمِنۡ وَّرَآئِہِمۡ بَرۡزَخٌ اِلٰی یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُوۡنَ ﴿۱۰۱﴾

Translation: Until, when death comes to one of them, he says entreating, ‘My Lord, send me back, ‘That I may do righteous deeds in the life that I have left behind.’ Never, it is but a word that he utters. And behind them is a barrier until the day when they shall be raised again. [23:100-101]

Verse #3

فَیُمۡسِکُ الَّتِیۡ قَضٰی عَلَیۡہَا الۡمَوۡتَ

Translation: And then He retains those against which He has decreed death. [39:43] 

Verse #4

وَقَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ اتَّبَعُوۡا لَوۡ اَنَّ لَنَا کَرَّۃً فَنَتَبَرَّاَ مِنۡہُمۡ کَمَا تَبَرَّءُوۡا مِنَّا ؕ کَذٰلِکَ یُرِیۡہِمُ اللّٰہُ اَعۡمَالَہُمۡ حَسَرٰتٍ عَلَیۡہِمۡ ؕ وَمَا ہُمۡ بِخٰرِجِیۡنَ مِنَ النَّارِ ﴿۱۶۸﴾٪

Translation: And those who followed shall say: ‘If we could only return, we would disown them as they have disowned us.’ Thus will Allah show them their works as anguish for them, and they shall not get out of the Fire. [2:168]

Verse #5

ثُمَّ اِنَّکُمۡ یَوۡمَ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ تُبۡعَثُوۡنَ ﴿۱۷﴾

Translation: Then on the Day of Resurrection will you be raised up. [23:17]

Verse #6

لَا یَبۡغُوۡنَ عَنۡہَا حِوَلًا ﴿۱۰۹﴾

Translation: They will not desire any change therefrom. [18:109]

Verse #7

وَّمَا ہُمۡ مِّنۡہَا بِمُخۡرَجِیۡنَ ﴿۴۹﴾

Translation: Nor shall they ever be ejected therefrom. [15:49]

Verse #8

یُرِیۡدُوۡنَ اَنۡ یَّخۡرُجُوۡا مِنَ النَّارِ وَمَا ہُمۡ بِخٰرِجِیۡنَ مِنۡہَا ۫ وَلَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ مُّقِیۡمٌ ﴿۳۸﴾

Translation: They will wish to come out of the Fire, but they will not be able to come out of it, and they shall have a lasting punishment. [5:38]

Verse #9

فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیۡعُوۡنَ تَوۡصِیَۃً وَّلَاۤ اِلٰۤی اَہۡلِہِمۡ یَرۡجِعُوۡنَ ﴿٪۵۱﴾

Translation: And they will not be able to make a will, nor will they return to their families. [36:51]

Verse #10

اُولٰٓئِکَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡجَنَّۃِ ۚ ہُمۡ فِیۡہَا خٰلِدُوۡنَ ﴿٪۸۳﴾

Translation: Those are the dwellers of Heaven; therein shall they abide. [2:83]
