The father of Hazrat Mu‘awwiz(ra) is Amr bin Jamooh(ra), who was prevented from participating in the Battle of Badr by his sons owing to a limp and pain in his foot.
Martyrdom of Hazrat Amr bin Jamooh(ra)
On the occasion of the Battle of Uhud, Hazrat Amr bin Jamooh(ra) said to his sons that they did not permit him to go to war on the occasion of Badr. However, he said that this time he would most certainly participate in the battle of Uhud, and they would not be able to stop him. His sons explained to him that due to his impediment, he was not even obliged to participate in the battle under such circumstances. However, Hazrat Amr bin Jamooh(ra) did not accept this.
He presented himself before the Holy Prophet(sa) and said, “O Messenger(sa) of Allah!(sa) My sons are preventing me from participating in the battle due to my injured foot. However, I wish to participate in the Jihad alongside you.” The Holy Prophet(sa) replied, “As for you, Allah the Almighty has exempted you and as such, Jihad is not obligatory upon you.” Nevertheless, seeing his zeal and passion, the Holy Prophet(sa) granted him permission. Hazrat Amr bin Jamooh(ra) collected his provisions for the war and as he was about to set off, he said, “O Allah! Grant me martyrdom and do not return me to my family unsuccessful.” Subsequently, this desire of his was in fact fulfilled and he was martyred in the Battle of Uhud. Following his martyrdom, his wife, Hazrat Hind(ra), carried him and her brother, Abdullah bin Amr(ra), on the same horse and buried both of them in the same grave. The Holy Prophet(sa) stated, “I swear by Him Who holds my life in His hands! I have seen Amr walking in heaven with his limp.” (Usdul Ghabah, Vol. 4, pp. 195-196, Amr bin al-Jamuh(ra), Dar-ul-Kutub al-Ilmiyyah, Beirut, 2008)
