Friday Sermon on the Divine attribute of ‘Al-Jabbar’ – which translates as The Subduer or The One who Subdues. (It is worth noting that in his Urdu translation of the Holy Quran, Hazoor has explained Al-Jabbar as One Who make amends).
Hazoor explained that Al-Jabbar is that Being Who can compel mankind to praise and exalt Him. Expounding the word further Hazoor said it has been derived from an Arabic phrase that denotes to favour and patronise a needy person, it also connotes to reform with domination and might. Hazoor explained that when used for man, the word Jabbar has a censorious significance and that the compulsion and coercion associated with the word adopts the elements of His all-encompassing Mercy and Grace when it is used for Allah.
With reference to the sayings of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be on him) Hazoor said that the heart of man is as if between the two fingers of the Subduer God and He can, when He so wills, turn it, and that terrible is that person who brags about and does not remember God, the Subduer, the Great. Hazoor related another hadith that recounts that on the Day of Judgment after all creation has had accountability and the two remaining persons are to be sent to hell, one of them will turn back and look. The Subduer God will summon that person and ask as to why he had turned and looked. The person will reply that he had hoped that he would be sent to heaven. Upon this he will be sent to heaven.
Hazoor further explained the subject with reference to Quranic verses whereby the negative characteristic associated with the word Jabbar is mentioned in relation to those who opposed the prophets of God.
With reference to a revelation of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) and based on his personal experience Hazoor explained that reading verse (26:131) of Surah Al-Shu`ara'protects one from harmful insect bites and stings.
