Hazrat Sumayyah and her family, may Allah be pleased with them, have great prominence in the history of Islam. Both Hazrat Sumayyah^(ra) and her husband Hazrat Yaasir^(ra) are among the first seven people who embraced Islam as their religion. As a result, they were severely tortured and eventually martyred by the disbelievers of Makkah.

Hazrat Sumayyah^(ra) is the first woman to lay down her life for Islam while her husband, Hazrat Yaasir^(ra), became the first man to lay down his life. Owing to the great perseverance demonstrated by this entire family, the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, prayed for their forgiveness and for them to be granted a high station in Paradise. This is their story.
