'Those who, if We establish them in the earth, will observe Prayer and pay the Zakat and enjoin good and forbid evil. And with Allah rests the final issue of all affairs.' (22:42)
Alhamdolillah, today Ahmadiyya Jama'at in Japan is enabled to have its first mosque inaugurated. May God bless this mosque in every way and may those who attend the mosque be able to fulfil all the objectives for which a mosque is made. Indeed, some beautiful mosques are also built by non-Ahmadis spending millions and hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is the first Ahmadiyya mosque in Japan but not the first mosque in the country, there are about 100 mosques in Japan. Simply having a mosque built does not fulfil our objective in Japan. Our mosque is understood to be the largest mosque in Japan in terms of capacity. This is also not a very significant fact and should not make us think that we have reached our ultimate goal. Our objective will be fulfilled when, having taken the bai'at of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) we try to attain its objectives, that is, to forge a connection with God, to fulfil the rights and dues of worship of God and to fulfil the rights and dues of God's creation, to elevate our practice to high levels and take the beautiful message of Islam to every person in this nation.
Once Japan had religious freedom and its people became inclined to faith, they were also interested in Islam. When this fact was brought to the attention of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) he expressed an intense desire to deliver the message of true Islam to the Japanese. He explained, more than a century ago, that if Japanese people were inclined towards Islam, they should be given the message of true Islam. He asked why they should turn to a faith that was dead. Explaining, he said how could those, who do not have the spirit of Islam in themselves, be of any benefit to the Japanese people. Those who have closed the door to revelation and made their faith lifeless. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said agonisingly that other Muslims are not only unfair on themselves by following this creed they also make others distant from Islam by showing the erroneous creed. He said, what is needed is that this community should prepare some people for this task who are competent and courageous. He also expressed the desire to write a book for tabligh among the Japanese. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) came in subordination of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) to spread his message in the world which indeed includes Japan and Oceania and other parts of the world. It is a grace of God that Ahmadis have migrated to Japan and it is God's grace that some run successful businesses there. Almost all Ahmadis in Japan are those who benefitted economically after migrating from Pakistan. Many among them are those whose forefathers accepted Ahmadiyyat and there would be some among them, who, after listening to the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) may have wished and longed to visit Japan and rest of the word to spread the message, but their longing remain unfulfilled. Ahmadis who are now in Japan and are given the opportunity by God to be there should spread that message. Surely, they have not migrated simply for economic reason?
The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) was saddened that other Muslims, having closed the door to revelation had made faith dead, what message of Islam could they take to the Japanese for the Japanese were not in need of a lifeless faith. Now Ahmadis living in Japan can give proof of Islam being a living faith. Once door to God is closed what difference remains between Islam and other religions? If Islam's pre-eminence is to be proven it is to be done by telling the world that the God of Islam still speaks to those He loves. Economic benefit should not be the only goal of coming to Japan, rather everyone should forge connection with God. Islam does not need any force or might to spread. It is in need of people who have absolute faith in God, whose standards of worship of God are high and who, rather than perpetrate murder and mayhem, engage in Jihad against their selves to make themselves better people. It is a great tragedy of the state of Muslims that on the one hand they reject that God can still send down revelation and on the other hand they try to spread Islam through force and oppression and by murdering innocent people. The recent Paris attacks were intensely barbaric. These people are not garnering God's grace, rather they garner His chastisement. In this regard there is huge responsibility on Ahmadis to elevate their levels of worship of God as well as spread the message of the teachings of Islam. Their responsibility is to fulfil the rights and dues of the new mosque, to populate and fill it five times a day, to elevate their level of worship of God, to reflect and analyse their practice and to extend the fields of tabligh. Indeed, the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said if you want to introduce Islam in an area, build a mosque there. Avenues of tabligh and introduction will open up.
The mosque in Japan puts responsibility on Ahmadis who live there as regards standards of their worship of God and tabligh. Media has given quite a bit of coverage to the opening of the mosque as presenting peaceful Islam. It is up to the Ahmadis in Japan to avail this introduction. Of course building of our mosque is nothing new in Japan. There are some 100 mosques in the country. The significance of our mosque is that unlike other Muslims we give true illustration of Islam, the illustration given by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and for which his true and ardent devotee was sent in this age. It is also the responsibility of Ahmadis to present this illustration and for this strength of creed and belief is not sufficient, in fact good standard of practice is also required as well as spirit of brotherhood. We have to turn our sights to where our master's sight was as well as the sight of his true and ardent devotee. We can find this discourse in the Holy Qur'an. It is not sufficient to say, Alhamdolillah, we have accepted the Imam of the age. And in this age Ahmadi Muslims alone are the addressees of the verse recited at the start of the sermon, who have accepted the Imam of the age and among whom the system of Khilafat is instituted for the firm establishment of faith. And God has laid down some principles for those who associate with the system of Khilafat. Firstly, attention is drawn to observance Salat. If attention is lacking in this regard then it is incorrect to claim to be true Muslims and say that we will bring about revolutionary change in the world and we have accepted the true and ardent devotee of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). This is so because the very objective of the coming of the Promised Messiah was to connect man to God, the second objective is to connect humanity with each other.
The aforementioned verse states that those who fear God pay the dues of His worship and also spend for the good of others. Not only do they follow this in their life-time they also leave behind models for others to emulate; models of how to avail the real objective of life and to protect oneself from Satan. If we accept the one commissioned by God in this age we must consider this as a grace of God because other Muslims are dispersed. We accepted the Promised Messiah and after him his Khilafat was firmly established, through which we move at the gesture/signal of one hand. Indeed, the status of being firmly established/honoured is not simply attained through governance or power, rather it is also attained through inner peace. InshaAllah that time will soon come when governments will also accept the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). The world now looks upon us to give the true teachings of Islam, this too is an honour stemming from us being firmly established. God states that to be recipients of this grace stay firm on piety and spread it and avoid what is bad and also save others from it and this practice will give you progress.
Every Ahmadi should be mindful to continue to focus on bettering our practice and this will continue to be a source of our Jama'at being firmly established and honoured and governments too will come under its umbrella and become subservient to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). This indeed is a great glad-tiding for true Muslims who are not oppressors, who are fair and just, who do not forget God, who worship Him and who do not usurp others, rather who fulfil rights of others. Who are not selfish, rather are selfless and who have a sincere connection with Khilafat e Ahmadiyya and do not simply repeat pledges at Ijtemas, rather who spread good values and stop what is evil and before doing so, who self-reflect. Who sacrifice their egos for the sake of the administrative system of the Jama'at. These aspects make them closer to God and also facilitates them to fulfil rights of humanity and make them true Ahmadi Muslims as the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) expected them to be.
There are some in the Jama'at who say that they will sacrifice their all for the sake of Khilafat e Ahmadiyya, however, when they are asked to settle mutual grievances they look for endless excuses. If you want to be true believers, be those who give peace and security. Being associated with the new mosque in Japan should not be in terms of merely associating with a building of bricks and mortar. Rather, it should be associating with that person whom God sent to connect man with God and having abandoned all personal grievances, wishes and egoism, to bind people in a system which demands sacrifice. And this sacrifice may not be simply financial giving but may also be sacrifice of egoism. Enjoining good should not be only for others but should also apply on oneself and before forbidding others from evil, one should self-reflect.
Large majority of Ahmadis in Japan are from Pakistan where they face persecution to worship God, where they face persecution to call their mosque a mosque, where uttering greeting of peace and security can end up in three-year imprisonment. Some Ahmadis in Japan have sought asylum and they should ponder as to how much God has blessed them. There is no persecution in Japan as regards worship of God, no punishment for calling mosque a mosque and rather than causing imprisonment, greetings of peace and security is appreciated. Does all this not demand that we bring about revolutionary changes in ourselves and recognise the objective of our creation? That we should live with mutual love and affection and extend this love and affection in wider society and instil those qualities in ourselves that God wants us to have. Effort will be needed for this.
God states in the Holy Qur'an: 'They are the ones who turn to God in repentance, who worship Him, who praise Him, who go about in the land serving Him, who bow down to God, who prostrate themselves in prayer, who enjoin good and forbid evil, and who watch the limits set by Allah. And give glad tidings to those who believe.' (9:112)
The first condition to become a true believer is to repent from sin and promise to completely avoid it. This does not only signify big sins but mistakes and errors which create disturbance in the system of Jama'at are also sin. Worship of God is also an obligation, as it is obligatory to abide by God's will. Indeed, God's will is for man to worship God as it is stated: 'And I have not created the Jinn and the men but that they may worship me.' (51:57) No one is exempt from worship of God; the rich, the poor, business people alike should not be indolent about it.
Some Ahmadis have given great financial sacrifices for the construction of mosque in Japan, others have endured hardship to make sacrifices and children too have contributed in giving. Although there has been a tremendous spirit of sacrifice it does not exempt anyone from being indolent as regards worship of God. Sacrifices gain acceptance in conjunction with fulfilling dues of worship of God. The verse goes on to state: praise God. We should praise God that by granting us the mosque in Japan He has opened avenues of tabligh for us, we should praise God that He has opened up new ways for us to spread the teaching of Islam, we should praise God that He has made us economically better-off, this is not owing to any cleverness on our part but is through His grace alone. We should remember God's blessings on us. Praising God should also encompass being grateful to Him even in adverse circumstances. We should praise God that He enabled us to accept the Imam of the age. God states in the verse that true believers travel to seek God's pleasure and the migration of Ahmadis to Japan should be in this vein. The verse goes on to state that true believers bow down before God. This signifies bowing down in Salat as well as spending wealth and one's energy/skill/knowledge for the cause of faith. We should not merely repeat our pledge in a ritualistic manner but should put it in practice. God states in the verse that true believers also prostrate before God and are inclined to pray.
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said that a true believer is the closest to God when in the prostration posture. Prostrations of nearness of God should be looked for. Merely putting one's forehead on the floor does not signify prostration. Rather, we should also prostrate in spirit most humbly and try and seek God's pleasure. What is needed is to sacrifice everything before God, to put aside one's ego, abide by commandments and follow the administrative system of the Jama'at. It is indeed also God's commandment to obey the administrative system of community and it brings nearness to God. The prostration posture brings one closer to God and is made in a state of humility. When we are enabled to make prostrations of complete humility and make full efforts to gain God's nearness, we should also use all our capacities to bring others close to God; those who are immersing themselves in worldly ways. This is the task and responsibility of every Ahmadi to save the world from Divine displeasure. God states in the verse that true believers watch the limits set by God, that is, full effort should be made to put in practice limits set by God as stated in the Holy Qur'an and which the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) elucidated and which were also told by the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) who expected us to abide by them. Try and put in practice the words of the Khalifa of the time. We should guard our faith and our practice and value the blessing of Khilafat that God has given us in this age. God has stated it [Khilafat] as an important element of being firmly established and honoured and has given glad-tidings to those true believers who put these matters in practice.
It is God's favour on us that we utilise modern inventions to our benefit. The Jama'at spends hundreds of thousands of dollar each year on MTA. It is a huge resource of tabligh as well as tarbiyyat and above all it is a means to be connected to Khalifa of the time. A mother recently complained about lack of Jama'at resources in Japan. Most of the week the children are either at school or at home with parents. When home parents should at least show them the programmes of Khalifa of the time. It will give them tarbiyyat (moral training) and they will understand the concept of the unity of the Jama'at. Parents should adhere to MTA programmes of the Khalifa of the time and also make their children adhere. Even people outside our Jama'at write in to Hazrat Khalifatul Masih telling him how listening to his sermon made them aware of the reality of religion. How much more do we need to watch these programmes? If time difference is a problem, there are many repeat broadcasts at various times.
Then there is the ill of finding faults of others rather than spend time in constructive matters. Office-holders too should do tarbiyyat affectionately and rather than increase grievances they should increase mutual affection. We give the message of love for all, hatred for none but what is the point if we ourselves have malice in our hearts? Those who find themselves in such situations should bring changes to seek God's pleasure and be included among those who have been given glad-tidings as true believers. Some families talk negatively about Jama'at and office-holders at home. They are subliminally ruining their next generation. We claim to enjoin good and forbid evil and as such we should first and foremost direct these aspects at ourselves and our families. Failing this, our tabligh efforts will be unsuccessful. Now that the mosque is built, its rights should be fulfilled. Addressing native Japanese Ahmadis Hazrat Khalifatul Masih said they should learn faith and progress in belief. They should not see how such and such long-term, born Ahmadis are. As mentioned many times before, God is no one's relation, His help and succour will be with those who are pious. May God make every Ahmadi live their life by this principle and may this mosque bring a revolutionary change in the belief and practice of every Ahmadi. Rather than have temporary enthusiasm and interest about the mosque may its rights be fulfilled in reality.
As regards facts and figures about the mosque the land it stands on is 1000 square metres. It has a ground floor and a first floor and is situated on a main road which is also a junction. It has exits to two highways close by. Also a close by is a train station from where direct trains run to Nagoya International Airport. As blessings bricks from Masjid Mubarak Qadian and Darul Masih Qadian were used in the mosque. Ground floor of the mosque has the main hall with the capacity for more than five hundred worshippers. Lajna hall is upstairs and there is also a terrace. With a small marquee erected on the terrace the mosque capacity could increase by seven to eight hundred. There are also offices and a library on the first floor. There is also a house for the missionary and guest rooms. The building was purchased and alterations were made to convert it into a mosque including four minarets and a dome. As it is on a main road it draws a lot of attention. It is our first mosque in the entire Far East region, may it herald many more. The property was purchased in June 2013 and the costs were around 137,000,000 JPY ($1,115,591). A little less than half of this was given as aid by the centre and the balance was met through great sacrifices by Japanese Jama'at. May God reward them all! It was first thought that planning permission will be easily obtained but a time came when everything looked very difficult. At one point lawyers advised against going ahead due to Jama'at not being registered and suggested relinquishing the contract. But God removed all the obstacles. There were also concerns that the locals may protest but a meeting was called and God filled their hearts with conviction and they promptly agreed. Some of them would be present at the Friday Prayers. All these matters should increase the faith of Ahmadis who live in Japan and they should pay attention to their responsibilities.
There are many accounts of financial sacrifices made for the building of the mosque. One Ahmadi took home whichever office-holder requested for donation and said I will give whatever I have. His Japanese wife presented some boxes from which she took out cash and property worth $10,000 and donated. Sadr Sahib Japan says he knows of other families who are not financially well-off but they limited their own personal expenses and made donations. At one stage there was a shortage of £250,000 which was met by Ahmadis in Japan by making great sacrifices although they had already made donations. A young student who works part-time gives, or gave regularly until the time reports were received, each month. Children gave their pocket money, a young girl collected all the gifts she had received on different occasions and gave a donation of nearly $9000. Ladies gave their jewellery including one who gave her 24 bangles of gold. One lady gave the jewellery her mother had given her and a lady who has recently arrived from Pakistan gave her new gold jewellery set bought only in January of this year.
May God Himself bless all these people and continue to increase them in faith and may they fulfil the rights and dues of the mosque and live together with love and affection. Neighbouring Japanese people have made many sincere gestures. When a neighbour found out that guests were coming from abroad for the opening of the mosque he gave the use of his large three-storeyed house as accommodation for guests. Other neighbours offered car parking spaces. It is traditional for Japanese people to decorate new buildings with opulent flowers. Two Japanese friends expressed the wish to decorate the mosque for its opening and were very helpful. A non-Ahmadi lawyer was extremely helpful in the registration process and all matters legal regarding the mosque. His fee amounted to $20,000 which he waived because he felt Ahmadiyya Jama'at had done many favours to Japan. The opening was also covered well by media.
Second largest newspaper of the country published a report on 11 Nov. It said that a mosque and community centre of peaceable Ahmadiyya Muslim community is ready. It constitutes of minarets and has capacity for 500 worshippers. The Ahmadiyya community prides in propagating peace and love and holds programmes promoting social interaction. There are about 200 members of this community in Japan most of whom are of Pakistani origin while others are from fifteen different ethnicities. The community is at the forefront of voluntary activities. They distributed food among those affected by the Kobe earthquake and tsunami, as well as the earthquake in northern Japan and floods this year.
This is the impression the Jama'at has on others; as representatives of Islam which promotes peace and security, who serve humanity. It is the task of every Ahmadi in Japan to keep this going and to enhance this impression. May God enable every Ahmadi to promote the reality that Islam is a religion of peace and security and our mosques are symbols of this so that avenues of spreading Islam in this nation become wider still and this nation may also be fortunate enough to recognise the Creator and understand the status of the benefactor of humanity, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him).

(Those who, if We establish them in the earth, will observe Prayer and pay the Zakat and enjoin good and forbid evil. And with Allah rests the final issue of all affairs.)
Alhamdulillah, today the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Japan has been granted the opportunity to build its first mosque. May Allah make its construction blessed in every respect and may you be among those who fulfill the purpose for which a mosque is built. Mosques are also built by non-Jama'at and other Muslims, and they build very beautiful mosques spending millions and billions of dollars. Here in Japan, although this is the first mosque of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, it is not the first mosque in the country. It is said that there are one hundred (100) or more mosques of other Muslims here. Therefore, merely building a mosque is not something about which we can say that our purpose of coming to Japan has been fulfilled. Some also mentioned with great pride that this mosque we have built is the largest mosque in Japan in terms of capacity, but this too is not such an important thing that we should think we have reached our ultimate goal. Our purpose will be fulfilled when we strive to achieve the objective of coming into the bai'at (pledge of allegiance) of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) and that objective is that a relationship with Allah be established and that we become those who fulfill the right of His worship. We should be among those who fulfill the rights of His creation and we should be among those who look at their practical conditions and attain their high standards. We should be among those who convey the beautiful message of Islam, its beautiful teachings, to every person of this nation. When Japan gained religious freedom and the Japanese also developed an inclination toward religion, attention was also drawn toward Islam. When this matter was brought to the knowledge of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) he expressed very strongly his desire to convey the true Islam to the Japanese. A hundred years ago, he clearly stated that if the Japanese are developing an inclination toward Islam, then the message of true Islam should also be conveyed to them, otherwise what need do the Japanese have to turn toward a dead religion. He said that those who themselves have no spirit of Islam within them—meaning other Muslims—what benefit will they provide to others. He said that other Muslims have closed the door of revelation and made their religion like a dead body. He said with great sorrow that other Muslims, by saying that the door of revelation has closed, not only commit injustice upon themselves but also prevent others from entering Islam by showing them their beliefs and bad deeds. What weapon do they have with which they want to eliminate other religions? He told his followers that members from this Community who are capable and courageous should be prepared for this work. (Extracted from Malfuzat, Volume 7, page 452, 1985 Edition, published in England) Then he also expressed his desire to write a book for preaching to the Japanese. (Extracted from Malfuzat, Volume 8, page 20, 1985 Edition, published in England)
Thus, just as you (peace be upon him) came in following the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to spread his message in the world, Japan is not outside of this, nor are the islands, nor is the rest of the world. It is Allah's grace and favor that you people have been given the opportunity to come to this country. It is Allah's favor that among you there are those whom, after coming here, Allah has given progress in their businesses. Almost all are such whose circumstances have improved economically after coming here compared to Pakistan. Many among you are those whose fathers and grandfathers accepted Ahmadiyyat, and certainly among them there would also be those whose desire, after hearing the words of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) would have wished they could get the opportunity to spread the beautiful teaching of Islam in Japan and in the world, but their longing remained in their hearts. But Allah has given you the opportunity to come to Japan and to go out into the world so that you may convey this message. Did you come to Japan only to gain economic comfort? The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) is expressing grief over what other Muslims spread in Japan when these people have closed the door of Allah's word and revelation and made Islam a dead religion, and what need do the Japanese or residents of any country in the world have for a dead religion. He said it is you who can provide proof of Islam being alive and can tell the world of its virtues.
When the paths to connect with Allah are closed, what difference remains between Muslims and followers of other religions. If the superiority of Islam is to be proven in the world, then it can only be proven by establishing a living relationship with Allah. Superiority can be proven by telling the world that the God of Islam still speaks to the one whom He loves. Thus, to prove this superiority, your economic comfort after coming here is not sufficient, and certainly it is not. Rather, everyone needs to establish a relationship with Allah. For Islam to spread, there is no need for any sword. For Islam to spread, there is a need for those people who have complete and perfect belief and faith in Allah. For Islam to spread, there is a need for those people whose standards of worship are high. For Islam to spread, there is a need for those people who, instead of committing murder and violence, struggle against their own selves and reform their practical conditions. The extremely tragic state of Muslims is that on one hand they have denied Allah's living revelation and connection, and on the other hand they try to spread Islam by the sword. They try to spread Islam through harshness. They are becoming increasingly extremist. They claim to serve Islam by killing innocent people. Now in recent days, the incident that occurred in Paris was an extremely cruel act. By committing this act, these people are not earning Allah's favors but His displeasure. Therefore, in this respect also, a very great responsibility falls on Ahmadis today; when they increase their standards of worship, they should also preach the beautiful teaching of Islam to others. Thus, the mosque that has been built, fulfills its right. To fulfill this right, populate it five times a day. To fulfill this right, raise your standards of worship. To fulfill this right, take stock of your practical conditions. To fulfill this right, expand in the field of preaching. The Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) said in one place that wherever you want to introduce Islam, build a mosque there, then the paths of preaching and introduction will continue to open. (Extracted from Malfuzat, Volume 7, page 119, 1985 Edition, published in England) Thus, this mosque is placing responsibility upon you that where you elevate the standards of worship, there you should prepare yourselves for preaching. Even before the inauguration, the media has given quite a lot of coverage to this mosque and in this regard has presented an introduction of peace-loving Islam before the people of the country. So now it is the work of every Ahmadi living here to benefit from this introduction. A mosque is not something new for the Japanese. Here, as I mentioned, it is said there are about one hundred mosques, so why is the inauguration of our mosque so important? Because, unlike common Muslims, we show the picture of Islam—the true picture that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) showed. Also, for showing that Allah sent His true servant in this age. Thus, to show this picture, you too will have to fulfill your responsibility, and these responsibilities cannot be fulfilled unless you are not just established in the firmness of belief, but also are among those who strive to attain high standards of practical conduct. Those who increase in mutual love, affection and brotherhood. Where the sight of our Master and Obeyed One is, where the sight of his true servant is, we must turn our sights there. What did he do? What did he show? He also practically demonstrated in the environment the love and affection whose teaching he gave. We also find mention of this in the Holy Quran. Thus, just saying Alhamdulillah we have accepted the Imam of the age, Alhamdulillah we are Ahmadis, is not enough.
The verse I recited points to matters that Allah has drawn attention to, and in this age, Ahmadi Muslims are the addressees of this because we are the ones who have accepted the Imam of the age. We are the ones in whom the system of Khilafat continues for the establishment of religion. For an Ahmadi Muslim, for one who accepts the Imam of this age, for one who claims attachment to Khilafat, Allah has stated certain fundamental principles: first, pay attention to establishing prayers because this is the fundamental purpose of your creation. If prayers are not offered, if there is no attention toward worship, then these claims are also false that we are true Muslims. These claims are also false that we will create a revolution in the world. These claims are also false that we have accepted the true servant of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Because he stated the purpose of his advent as connecting man with Allah.
And then he said that the second purpose is to fulfill each other's rights. (Extracted from Malfuzat, Volume 3, page 95, 1985 Edition, published in England) In this verse too, Allah says that the characteristic of Allah's true servants is that they fear Allah. They fulfill the right of His worship. From their wealth too, for the sake of Allah's pleasure, they spend for the betterment and welfare of humanity. And they not only create this revolution in their own lives, to live walking on taqwa (righteousness) but by showing their examples, they also bring others along with them. They also tell them what the real purpose of life is. They tell them how to remain safe from Satan. Thus, if in this age we are among the followers of the messenger sent by Allah, then we will have to keep in mind these things that when Allah has done this favor upon us while other Muslims are scattered and have no voice that calls them to one direction. Allah has granted us that establishment through accepting the Promised Messiah, peace and blessings be upon him, and then through the system of Khilafat established after him, that we are those who rise and sit at one voice. Establishment is not just gaining government but is also the manifestation of awe and the creation of peace of heart. Insha'Allah, that time will also come when governments too, coming into the servitude of the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) will understand true Islam. But even at this time, the world has now started looking toward us to tell the true teaching of Islam. Thus, this too is an establishment and awe that Allah is now casting upon the world. But those who will benefit from this will be those who pay attention to Allah's word. Thus, Allah said that to become inheritors of this grace, establish yourselves in righteousness and spread it, and avoid evils and save others. Thus, as long as you remain established on this, as long as you hold fast to this fundamental principle, you will continue to progress.
Thus, every Ahmadi should always remember to keep paying attention toward progressing in their deeds, only then will they be able to draw the world's attention toward themselves, and this very thing will then also become the cause of that establishment when governments too, becoming subject to this true teaching, will come into the servitude of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Thus, Allah is giving glad tidings to true Muslims of achieving great objectives, but to those Muslims who are not oppressive but are established in justice. Who are not among those who forget Allah but are among those who fulfill the right of His worship. Who are not among those who usurp others' rights but are among those who fulfill rights. Who are not selfish but are selfless. Who maintain a loyal relationship with Ahmadiyya Khilafat. Who are not merely among those who repeat pledges at gatherings but are among those who first take stock of their own selves for spreading righteousness and forbidding evil. Who are among those who sacrifice their egos for the protection of the Jama'at system. Thus, these are the things that will make one close to Allah. These are the things that will also make one fulfill the rights of Allah's creation. These are the things that will make one that true Ahmadi which the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) expects from his followers. Some among you are those who say that we are ready to sacrifice everything for Khilafat, but when you are told to end mutual grudges and disputes and to become one united body, then you begin to find a hundred excuses. Thus, if you want to become a true believer, then instead of becoming one who seeks excuses and paths of discord, become one who establishes peace and security by making sacrifices. When you are being associated with this mosque, then remember that you are not being associated with a building of bricks, cement and stone, but you are being associated with that person whom Allah sent in this age so that he may connect man with God and, ending all personal grudges, desires and egos, string them into that system which demands sacrifice. Not just sacrifice of wealth but also sacrifice of one's ego. It does not want Amr bil Ma'roof (enjoining good) for others only, but first directs one's own self: do you also do what you are saying? For Nahi 'anil Munkar (forbidding evil), it tells you to take stock of your own self before telling others.
The majority among you are those who have come from Pakistan where you had to or have to endure hardships, restrictions and difficulties in worshipping. Where you have to face punishment for calling your mosque a mosque. Where you have to go to jail for three years for giving the message of peace. Some among you are also those who have claimed asylum here because of their difficulties. Some are business people. So think about this, ponder over how much Allah has favored you here that there is no hardship in worshipping here. There is no punishment for calling the mosque a mosque. Your message of peace is appreciated instead of sending you to jail. So do these things not demand that you create revolutionary changes within yourselves? Recognize your purpose of creation. Instead of fulfilling your carnal desires, try to attain Allah's pleasure. Live among yourselves with love and affection and spread this love and affection in this society as well. Create within yourselves those attributes that Allah wants from us. Just building a mosque will not create those attributes; rather, effort will have to be made for this. Allah has mentioned these attributes in one place in the Holy Quran. He say:
(They are the ones who turn to God in repentance, who worship Him, who praise Him, who go about in the land serving Him, who bow down to God, who prostrate themselves in prayer, who enjoin good and forbid evil, and who watch the limits set by Allah. And give glad tidings to those who believe.)
Thus, as Allah says, the first condition for a person to become a true believer is that he repent, meaning confess his sins and while confessing sins, make a complete pledge to avoid them. Sins are not just big sins but small mistakes that create disorder in the system also become sins, and when you become established on this pledge, then worshipping Allah while fulfilling the right of His worship is the duty of a believer. To conduct oneself according to Allah's will is the duty of a believer. And what is Allah's will? As I have already mentioned, Allah's will is that man worship Allah, as Allah says:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْاِنْسَ اِلَّا لِیَعْبُدُوْنِ (الذّاریات: 57)
(And I have not created the Jinn and the men but that they may worship Me.)
Thus, there is no room for the rich and business people to be outside of worship, nor is there room for common people and the poor to be lazy in worship. Some have made very big sacrifices in building the mosque, or some with low income have made financial sacrifices by putting themselves in difficulty. Children too have set very high examples. But all this does not exempt anyone among you, even if they have made unlimited sacrifices in the construction of this mosque, from showing laziness in worship. These sacrifices too will only be accepted when you fulfill the right of populating this mosque. When you fulfill the right of worshipping Allah.
Then Allah says: become those who praise. The right of praising Allah is fulfilled through His worship. Praise Allah that He granted the opportunity to sacrifice for building the mosque. Praise Allah that He opened fields of preaching by granting this mosque. Praise Allah in such a way that He opened new paths for explaining the beautiful teaching of Islam. Praise Allah that He improved your economic conditions, and this improvement in economic conditions is not due to anyone's intelligence, wisdom and knowledge but is due to Allah's favors. Therefore, remember Allah's favors. Fulfill His rights in this way. Praising Allah also means that if some unfavorable circumstances come, then continue to be grateful to Him for that as well. Never be ungrateful. Praise Allah also in this way that He granted the opportunity to accept the Imam of the age and saved you from being lost.
Then Allah says that a believer also makes his journeys a means of attaining Allah's pleasure. Thus, in this respect, your coming to this country should be such that you attain Allah's pleasure by progressing in the field of preaching.
Then He said that believers are among those who bow. Firstly, there are the bowing in prayers, but this also means that they are among those who sacrifice their time, their life, their wealth in the way of religion. So keep in mind your pledges. Do not just formally repeat the pledge to sacrifice life, wealth, time and honor but become the practical picture of it. Then Allah says that it is also necessary for a believer to be a prostrator. That is, make full effort to attain Allah's nearness. Pay attention to your prayers. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said that a believer is closest to Allah in the state of prostration. (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Salat, Bab ma yuqal fi al-ruku' wa al-sujud, Hadith No. 1083) Thus, try to seek those prostrations of nearness. Just touching the forehead to the ground is not prostration, but trying to attain Allah's pleasure by bowing before Allah with utmost humility to attain His pleasure. There is a need to pay attention to obeying the system by sacrificing everything before Allah, keeping your egos behind, putting your honor behind, following His commands. And obedience to the system also because doing this is Allah's command. This too brings nearness to Allah. Thus, prostrations are for attaining Allah's nearness and these occur when humility is created in man. We should seek this. So when we are granted the opportunity of these humble prostrations, when there is attention toward making the utmost effort to attain Allah's nearness, then with all your capabilities, also bring others close to Allah by exhorting them to good things. Then pay attention to preaching. Also make others who are drowning in the world into those who bow before Allah. Also save others from drowning in sins and falling into the fire. Today this is the work of every Ahmadi. It is our responsibility to save the world from Allah's displeasure. And also remember, as I have already mentioned, that here Allah says that true believers are those who guard Allah's limits. Keep an eye on these things and guard them. That is, try with full commitment to act on those things that Allah has told. Which are stated in the Holy Quran. Guarding those things is also a task which Allah and His Messenger have told. Also pay attention to those things which the Promised Messiah, peace and blessings be upon him, has stated and expects from his Jama'at. Also pay attention to those things, listen to them and try to act upon them which are told to you by the Khalifa of the time. Guard your faith and actions. In this age, Allah has honored us with the blessing of Khilafat; value it because Allah has declared it an essential component for the establishment of religion and has given glad tidings to such believers who act on all these things. Thus, take stock of yourselves and be among those whom Allah has given the glad tidings of being true believers.
It is Allah's favor that He has also subjected the inventions of this age to us. The Jama'at spends millions of dollars every year on MTA. This is the best means of preaching and training and above all, a means of connection with the Khalifa of the time. A mother recently mentioned in a meeting here that there is no arrangement for children's training. There should be an arrangement. So instead of blaming the missionary or the administration, think that for six days a week, children are either with their parents or at school. When they are at home, at least direct them to listen to the programs of the Khalifa of the time. This will establish a relationship and love. This will provide training. They will learn about the unity of the Jama'at. Thus, if parents want to take care of their next generations, then they themselves should connect with the programs of the Khalifa of the time and also connect their children. Some non-Ahmadis also write to me sometimes that by listening to your sermon or such-and-such program, we learned the reality of religion. So for an Ahmadi, it is extremely necessary to connect with the programs of the Khalifa of the time to learn religion, for reformation and to establish unity. If here, for example in Japan, there is a time difference, then when the live sermon is happening at a different time there, programs come at different times and can be listened to. One disease in some people is that they keep looking for each other's faults. Instead of looking for faults, spend your time on constructive works. In this way, office-bearers too, whether they are the president of the Jama'at or other office-bearers, should train people with love and affection. Promote love and affection. Try to increase love instead of increasing grudges. You are giving the message to others that love for all, hatred for none, but if there is spite and malice in your own hearts, then there is no benefit in this. Whoever is in such a condition should change this condition for the sake of attaining Allah's pleasure. Try to create changes within yourself and be among those whom Allah has given the glad tidings of being true believers.
Sometimes in homes, speaking against the Jama'at system or against office-bearers is considered a trivial thing, but imperceptibly you are corrupting your next generations by this. So remember that we are claiming that we will do Amr bil Ma'roof and Nahi 'anil Munkar. We will spread righteousness and prevent evil, so first make yourself, your family members and children the addressees of this, otherwise your preaching will have no effect. This mosque has been built, but as I said, try to fulfill the rights of this mosque. I would also say to Japanese Ahmadis that learn religion and progress in your faith and conviction. Do not look at how such-and-such born Ahmadi or old Ahmadi is. If he is weak in matters of religion, then you become the cause of guidance for him. I have said many times before that Allah is no one's relative. Whoever does righteous deeds, whoever raises the standards of their worship, then Allah's support and help will be with them. May Allah grant that every Ahmadi lives their life keeping this principle in view, and may this mosque create a revolutionary change in every Ahmadi's faith as well as in their practical condition. May they not be among those who build mosques out of temporary enthusiasm and zeal but be among those who truly fulfill its right.
Let me also present some facts about the mosque. The total area of the mosque's land is 1000 square meters. It is a two-story building. As those who have come here have seen—let me inform the world—this is right on top of the main road of the area. This road connects all the major roads of the area. It is very close to the highway exit; in fact, two highways connect to it. There is a railway station nearby. From this railway station, a direct train goes to Nagoya International Airport. In this respect too, there are great facilities in it. I had named the mosque Baitul Ahad. Bricks from Masjid Mubarak Qadian and Darul Masih are also installed here for blessing. On the first floor of the building is the main hall of the mosque. In this hall where you are seated, there is capacity for more than five hundred worshippers, and on the upper floor is the Lajna hall and courtyard. A small canopy can be set up there for some functions, and including that, seven to eight hundred worshippers can offer prayer at one time. On the second floor there is also an office, a small library, Lajna hall, missionary house, and guest rooms. And this mosque building was purchased, but later changes were made to it. Because of this, to give it the appearance of a mosque, minarets were built on all four corners and a dome was also built. And because of being on the road, it has become a great center of attracting people's attention. This mosque is not only the first mosque of the Jama'at in Japan but also in Northeast Asian countries like China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc. May Allah make it a means of opening paths in other places as well, and may the Jama'ats progress there too and build mosques. As I said, this building was purchased and converted into a mosque. This building was purchased in June 2013. And on its purchase, construction, etc., a total of approximately thirteen crore seventy-seven lakh yen (137,800,000 Yen) was spent. This comes to approximately close to twelve lakh dollars. Of this, approximately a little less than half was the center's grant or assistance. The rest, the people here, the Jama'at here is very small, have contributed their share in the construction of this mosque by making great sacrifices. May Allah reward them all. When this place was purchased, initially it was thought that permission for the mosque would be obtained very easily, but then a time came when it seemed very difficult that permission for the construction of this mosque would be obtained. Registration in the name of the Jama'at and use as a mosque seemed very difficult. Once the lawyers advised the mosque committee that the work here seems very difficult and because the Jama'at is not registered, there may be problems with transfer in the name of the Jama'at and other issues. Therefore, it is better to withdraw from this agreement. But Allah removed all these obstacles in the path. There was a fear of problems arising from local people or objections coming. Because this is a small city. This is the first mosque in this city, but when meetings were held with local people, Allah also granted such openness to their hearts that they immediately expressed their consent. Some of them may be sitting here present at this time. All these things should be a cause of increase in faith and conviction for Ahmadis living here. And I will again say that they should pay attention to understanding their responsibilities.
There have also been some incidents of great financial sacrifice for Masjid Baitul Ahad. When the drive for building the mosque was made, an Ahmadi brother took the collector or finance secretary, whoever made the drive, with him saying come home with me and I will present whatever I have. His wife is Japanese. When they went and told about the donation, she brought different boxes and placed them in front, and when amounts were taken out from them or examined, all these things were approximately worth ten thousand dollars. Similarly, the president of Japan also wrote that we were aware of the circumstances of some friends that they are not very well-off, but they limited their expenses and attained the privilege of sacrifice for the construction of Allah's house, and at one time there was a shortage of two to two and a half lakh dollars in the amount to be given, but the friends made great sacrifice and bore difficulty and paid this amount. Those who had already given also made full effort and brought and presented whatever was available, and in this way approximately seven lakh dollars were collected. A young student is doing a part-time job. He receives a salary of eighty thousand yen. From this, every month he has had the opportunity to present fifty thousand yen for the mosque until now, or kept giving until the time of the report. Ahmadi children make great sacrifices. They kept presenting donations for the mosque by bringing their pocket money. And among children, the greatest sacrifice was made by a girl who gave gifts she received from her elders at different times in different currencies, and when the amount she had collected was totaled, it came to close to nine thousand dollars which she presented. Ahmadi women made great sacrifices. They presented their jewelry. And one lady presented twenty-four bangles. Then another presented her jewelry that she had received from her mother. A lady who came from Pakistan presented her new set of jewelry for the mosque which she had purchased in January for her daughter's wedding. May Allah abundantly bless all these sacrificers from His presence. May He grant blessings in their wealth. May He grant blessings in their souls. May He continue to increase them in faith and conviction and make them all fulfill the right of this mosque. May this mosque elevate their standards of worship, and also increase them in mutual love and affection, and seeing this love and affection, others' attention should also be drawn toward it.
Non-Jama'at neighbors have also expressed great love and sincerity. When a Japanese friend learned that a considerable number of guests were coming from abroad to participate in the inauguration, they offered their very large three-story house to the Jama'at to accommodate their guests. Similarly, when the mosque's neighbors learned that a large number of guests were expected for the mosque's inauguration, they gave their parking space to the Jama'at for parking cars. Generally, Japanese people decorate any building with very expensive flowers on the occasion of its inauguration, etc. When two Japanese friends learned that the inauguration of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's mosque in Japan is taking place, they said that they want to decorate the mosque with flowers on the occasion of the mosque's inauguration. So they provided full assistance.
Let me also mention the assistance of a non-Muslim lawyer, Mr. Akio Najima, in the registration of the mosque; he has done great work. He kept providing legal assistance. He assisted in a completely selfless manner. The fee for his work amounts to at least close to twenty thousand dollars. But he said that the Ahmadiyya Jama'at has done favors upon Japan and in return for this I will do this work without compensation. So he did not take any fee. There is also considerable mention of this (mosque) in newspapers and media, as I mentioned in the beginning. Introduction has been done through all major newspapers and well-known TV channels, and on November 11, announcing the completion of the mosque's construction, the country's second largest newspaper published this report: 'Muslims for whom "peace and love" are part of their faith'. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Japan's mosque and community center has been built in Tsushima city of Aichi Prefecture, i.e., the area of the local government here. This mosque consists of five small and large minarets, and then it was stated that about five hundred worshippers can offer prayers in it. Then it was written that propagating peace and love and holding programs while increasing interaction with one's society is the distinguishing feature of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. In Japan, mostly Pakistanis and including fifteen other nations, about two hundred members of this Community reside. It is a Community that remains at the forefront in voluntary activities as well. These people kept participating in service by distributing food, etc., to victims after the earthquake that came in Kobe, the tsunami and earthquakes that came in northern Japan, besides the flood that came this year.
Thus, this is the impression that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has established on others that they are representatives of Islam that spreads peace and security. They serve humanity. Maintaining and increasing this impression is the work of every Ahmadi living here. May Allah grant everyone the opportunity that every Ahmadi should also be among those who spread this reality that Islam is a religion of love and peace and our mosques are its symbol, so that the paths to spread the true message of Islam in this nation continue to widen and this nation too should be included among those fortunate ones who recognize their Creator and understand the status of the benefactor of humanity, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
